We work with Tanzanian families in Dar es Salaam and Arusha who have been willing to open their doors to travellers from around the world who want to know more about Tanzanian life and culture. The family provides you with a bed as well as breakfast and dinner, which you will eat together with the family members. Make sure to practice your Swahili before your trip, so you’ll know what the dinner table discussions are about!
Both the families and Grassroots work to ensure a safe stay at your host family, but also make sure to follow our simple guidelines to avoid getting into trouble. Also make sure to respect local customs, your surroundings and host family.
